From my office window I can see how this part of Michiana handles the snow that falls at a seemingly relentless pace. First there are the fake snowplow trucks. (I'm from the Midwest where they have "real" snowplow trucks.) These phony trucks have a useless blade under the cab, I don't understand why. And, they come in groups, usually two but sometimes three. I totally don't understand that one. Some labor union must have someone totally duped. Since I've been in my chair today, today's group of two phony trucks have made four round-trip passes past my abode.
I haven't seen the salt truck yet today however, maybe he is stuck somewhere.
Next, the entrepreneurs with the big snow plows in front of their pickups are combing the neighborhood like a swarm of Honey Bees. Their plows are bigger than the phony snow plow trucks by the way, almost up to Midwest standards. These helpful chaps are busily cleaning out every one's driveway, before it stops snowing mind you, no doubt hopeful that they will be called back after it quits snowing to do some more good.
It is Tuesday, garbage pickup day on my street. A symphony of garbage trucks orchestrated their way up and down the street earlier this morning. Back up chimes, thundering motors, squealing brakes and humming hydraulics made for quite the concert. An occasional yell highlighted the show, no doubt a fellow gleeful for his role of hauling my garbage away.
Then there is the normal day to day traffic. Buses, pickups, SUV's and other auto's probably off to work and school. The speed limit is 30mph on my township street but these folks are practicing for the Daytona 500, I'm sure. In the snow. FedEx, DHL and UPS as well, frequent stops but in a hurry too, the Postman will eventually waddle through.
The snow continues on and on, gently covering up the evidence of the morning cacophony. Perhaps I'll be able to witness an evening encore, sans the garbage trucks. And maybe, just maybe the salt truck will top it all off, perhaps following his two or three buddies in their phony plow trucks.
Wait! Wait!! The salt truck just came by. Earlier than I expected for sure. Usually he follows his buddies. But guess what? His buddies are following him! So guess what is happening... yep! His buddies are scraping the freshly spread salt OFF of the roadway. What a comedy, hooray for The Michiana Way!
